MARGO

RUSSELL

Margo lives in Andalusia, Alabama, a small town in south central Alabama. She paints and hand builds clay pieces in her studio on her family home place.

The countryside where she lives is lush with rivers and dense woodlands. Many of her paintings portray these abstract landscapes.

For many years she has painted florals. Her mother was an avid gardener. As a child, her mother’s beautiful flowerbeds influenced her.

Another motif is bluegrass musicians. She states, “Today, I am passionate about gesture; the immediacy of that energy my eyes see and my hands feel. I have been drawing and painting bluegrass musicians for 25 years, more recently hand building them with clay. They play music in the magic circle; I break in with marks and paint.”
